Telford Culture Zone is an exciting, dynamic initiative within Telford & Wrekin Council. We provide a wide range of arts and cultural services working across the borough for young people, their families and the wider community.
We are now in our 6th year, for our first three years we were part of the national Cultural Hubs programme which looked at collaborative working between the cultural and education sectors.. We developed partnerships with cultural organisations and a host of artists, educators and creative practitioners delivering over 70 innovative arts and cultural projects to over 18,000 young people. We have an excellent network of partners and our long term creative education programmes have a seen a further 96 creative projects delivered to over 35,000 young people during 2009.
Further to our success through the Cultural Hubs programme we were fortunate to become one of the ten national Find Your Talent pathfinder programmes from autumn 2008, which gave us the opportunity to expand our offer for children and young people aged between 0-19yrs old. We have strengthened our network and work across teams including Looked after Children, Early Years, NEETs, Youth Offending Service, Music Service and Connexions 4 Youth. We also engage with families and the local community, enhancing their access to cultural activities and improving their connection with the local area and environment.
Telford & Wrekin's Culture Zone team uses the arts to engage, inspire, raise aspiration, increase confidence and help young people feel empowered. We help to develop innovative and creative approaches to engaging young people in the curriculum, thereby raising standards in our schools and raising the aspirations of our children and young people
